Inktober: A Worldwide Drawing Challenge
Inktober is a popular annual drawing challenge that takes place every October. Created by artist Jake Parker in 2009, the challenge encourages artists to create one ink drawing a day for the entire month. Every day, in the month of October, anyone participating in the Inktober challenge creates an ink drawing and posts it on social media.
Participants often follow a set of daily prompts released by the official Inktober website, though artists are free to follow their own themes or ideas. Below is the Inktober Prompt List to follow. The goal is to encourage consistent practice, improve drawing skills, and foster creativity and create a vibrant and supportive community for artists worldwide. Artists share their work on social media.

Inktober is a challenge NOT a contest to see who the best artist is. It’s a challenge to see how much you can improve your art in a month, and to be inspired or to help inspire other artists to do the same. It is just a framework to get yourself to draw better, flex a little, and have some fun with your art.
While it’s suggested to use real ink, and use the official prompt list, the spirit of the challenge is very open to people being creative in what tools they use, how they use them, and what they create! There is no right or wrong. If you wish to work digitally, that’s great! If colored pencils or pastels are your preferred art form, then, by all means, do that every day. If you wish to pre-draw in pencil, do it! If you decided to cover it in watercolors, that’s beautiful! You don’t even have to follow the prompt list. The point is to create a challenge that sparks your creativity and desire to become better!
You can do it daily or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. Whatever you decide, just be consistent with it. Inktober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.
Drown out the negativity and celebrate the beauty of art and the spirit of community with art, and hopefully you will find inspiration and make a few friends along the way.
If you do decide to follow the prompts, visit the official Instagram page for loads of daily inspiration and have fun!
