This class is appropriate fo beginning watercolor artists, as well as experienced artists who want to find their "inner child".
Materials Provided by Student:
- Watercolor paints in pans, palette, tubes or bottles. Bring whatever you have. No Acrylics Please.
- Small watercolor or mixed media sketchbook, at least 5" x 5" and no larger than 9x12". (small watercolor pads or blocks will work as an alternative). Make sure the paper weight is at least 120 lb. as it needs to handle wet appiications.
- My preferred sketchbooks are: Hahnemuhle Watercolor Book, 30 pages (it says 60) of 100% cotton. 120 lb. paper 5.5x5.5 OR Canson Artist Series Mixed Media Spiral Notebook, 30 pages 138 lb. cellulose paper, 5.5x8.5. Both are usually availabe at Amazon, Blicks and Michaels for around $12-17
- Mark-making tools that you have, including but not limited to pencils, colored pencils, marking pens (can be acrylic), crayons, etc. Make sure you have one one and one black marker or pen
- Minimum of two watercolor paint brushes, small and medium sized.
- Unconventional tools for application, like cut-up sponges, cut-up credit cards, forks, plastic wrap, bubble wrap, stencils, old toothbrush......
- Water vessels (yogurt, cottage cheese cups) paper towels
- Small Spray Bottle
Objectives:
- Discover an easy, stress-free process with watercolor and mark-making
- Using small sketchbooks and journals (or small format papers), start a regular creative art practice-one that can continur beyond class
- Lose yourself in child-like brushstrokes, scribbles and patterns
- Learn to play without stiflig fear of perfection
- make your own choices and leave with unique, simple art
- Take your sketchbook home and add favorite quotes for recurring inspiration.
If you are in need of watercolor paints or brushes, the club has a few availble in its cupboard. Contact the instructor for any questions about supplies. Some may be provided by instructor if requested.
